Remains
These are not images of erasure in progress. They are what survived it. Objects and living things that outlasted the forces working against them: winter, time, collapse, reclamation. Some came through bearing visible damage. Others purified, stripped to what was always there. Some were found in daylight, others revealed only by a handheld light moving through deep night. The condition differs. The fact of survival is the same.
Disolved A street lamp continues to burn as fog erases everything around it. Its purpose remains. The world it was meant to illuminate does not.
Altruism Some things survive because they don't survive alone.
Late A single grass stem, seed heads intact, still standing in winter. Not finished. Not gone.
Giving Way The snow wants to consume it. The house refuses.
Collapse A clump of grass in winter snow. almost all survived.
Kept The hay consumes it. The hay retains it.
Constructed Wounded, scarred, and pierced by iron. The elements demanded collapse, but these stood their ground. Survival just the same.
Unheld A single rock in silked water. The water moves. The rock does not. No edge. No end.
